a (now) surprisingly obscure site - exitmundi.nl - was launched in 2001 by science journalist Maarten Keulemans. it's been inactive for years, but having been featured in magazines like New Scientist and The Transhumanist, it is a cornerstone of old web culture. Funny, slightly strange and delightfully doomery.....

The sci-fi aesthetic, the light language and the 'we're all fucked :)' mentality is cute! It's fresh - into the new millennium, here we go and face new apocalypses... this lightness of tone and fun ~vibes~ would get translated as doomer behaviour these days, or whatever... boring! The end calls for celebration! Celebration, jokes and honesty - not comedy that hides from the fact, but honesty, sincerity. Too much humour is sarcastic and conceals the reality of the situations at hand...

who's gonna be yelling WHAMMO! when the asteroid hits???!!!??
